Henry A. Hänni scholarship
(awarded once annually)
The Henry A. Hänni Scholarship has been created to honour Prof. Dr. Henry A. Hänni, a notable gemmological scientist and educator who was director of SSEF from 1990-2009. He travelled widely to gemstone mining regions and greatly enjoyed exchanging knowledge with local gemmologists.
This scholarship, awarded once a year, is intended for students from gemstone-producing countries who may not otherwise have the financial means to attend a course in Switzerland. The principal aim is to help such candidates further their studies in gemmology and develop as future gemmologists. Prof. Hänni’s contributions to the field were significant, and this scholarship aims to continue his legacy by supporting promising students.
What and how?
- Student must be from a gemstone producing country.
- Any course (in 2025) can be selected from https://www.ssef.ch/courses/
- SSEF will cover the necessary economy flights and hotel costs required for the candidate’s participation (1 person) in the course.
- Application form on SSEF’s website (see right). Candidates must answer 3 questions (each answer max. 700 characters), select one course they would like to take – explaining their motivation for this choice – and provide 1 reference. A reference person is someone who can vouch for your qualifications, work ethic, and character, typically a previous employer, colleague, or teacher, and is contacted to provide a recommendation or verification of your abilities.
Timeline
Deadline for applications will be 15th of November 2024. A short Zoom call with select candidates will be organised in order to select 1 winner for each scholarship.
We will announce the winners of both 2025 course scholarships December 16th 2024.
